I’ve decided it’s perfectly appropriate to stretch out Teacher Appreciation Week well into March. After all, our teachers are with us all year, nurturing and training our dearest offspring day in and day out! And we have a lot of teachers! Some have been with us a long time (Mr. Daniel), and others, just a short year or two (Mr. Handermann). Some have long hair (Mrs. Householder, Mrs. Liimakka) and some have no hair , as featured here (Mr. Morehouse, Mr. Schoberg).

Last week was Teacher Appreciation at the Ambrose School. I couldn’t even say the extent of homemade treats given, notes sent, coffee brewed, and necks massaged, but I witnessed a good deal of attention and love to the folks who train and nurture our offspring.

This is the week we celebrate the folks who make up the nuts and bolts of The Ambrose School--our teachers! These beloved souls are the ones who daily meet and greet, train and refrain, ask and answer, and supervise the feeding and watering of our dearest progeny. It is under their care that our students learn to read their first words, craft and articulate their senior thesis, and learn Latin and oh-so-many other important things in between. So it is no wonder that we want to shower our teachers with blessing and roast them with chocolate, coffee, attention, recess relief, and any other wonders we can think of.

Yesterday, several Ambrose School juniors participated in the Chrysostom Oratory Contest. Please say this three times fast and then spell it correctly. This event was sponsored by the Association of Classical and Christian Schools (ACCS) of which we are a member. The goals of the contest include inspiring students to pursue rhetorical excellence, showcasing the skills our students posses, and promoting the benefits of a classical education.

Yesterday, Lincoln Day was celebrated in our fair city. Lincoln Day is a time to honor our past President, but really, it’s a chance for Republicans to gather, raise funds, and give that little black dress a workout (if you’re female, of course) in the great auditorium of Boise Centre on the Grove. Our own Professor Yenor, with his vast connections, snagged an invite for our 6th graders to make a special appearance at the Lincoln Day dinner.

Just when I was going to get to those Brandt Center Christmas photos from December, I attended last week’s exordium and was totally awash in a new batch of fabulous shots I just must show you.
I love exordium. Even if it’s not my own children up front, it is so fun to see what each class is doing and how their distinct personalities come out on stage.

I’m still savoring the good times had at our third annual Masquerade Ball at The Ambrose School last weekend. Aside from the victory of hosting this event ourselves in our own gym, the students had such a great time. Many thanks to our dance instructors/hosts for the evening, pictured above: Taylor Wasdahl, Melody Herrick, Ty Rallens, and Jenny Rallens. Jenny is kicking up her heels extra high because she just had a birthday and she’s almost in her mid-twenties. But I won’t say her exact age. That is classified information.

January brings our annual masquerade dance...the third one of its kind at The Ambrose School. Especially exciting was holding this event at our own facility; those of you who have been around a while recall our various dance venues and we REJOICE at having a big and beautiful gymnasium that can host our student body!
Large and glorious spaces can be a decorating challenge when it comes to formal dances. But bring on Mrs. Joyce Cutbirth and her design team!

As a photographer, one of my very favorite shoots is being with the Ambrose senior class in the fall. We started this tradition back in 2006 when my daughter was part of Foundation’s first graduating class. We meet at Kathryn Albertson Park at the absolutely most beautiful time of the year there--October. First, we take a very traditional picture. This is for DG, who likes orderly and calm pictures of seniors for various marketing materials.

Yes, it’s true. Last week a Blackhawk helicopter touched down on our very own back yard. We could hear its approach minutes before we could see it, and then the big black bird appeared and circled the school, its wings beating loudly and rhythmically.
