Nearly a month ago now, The Ambrose School hosted it’s first Dinner Theatre-style Auction. The gymnasium was gussied up with professional lighting and sound, and a masterful stage was set, worthy of creative talent. And what better talent than our own Ambrose drama students? Directed yet again by the gifted Mrs. Mollie Petty, the students condensed the original Much Ado script to make it auction-friendly (this means it was quite short!). This was achieved by means of selected narration throughout the drama, greatly helping those of us who have a mental block with the mighty Shakespeare and his lofty language skills.

When auction event chairperson Amy Yenor asked if I would do a slideshow for this spring’s auction, I said “Yes! Of course!”
And then I remembered in more detail last year’s auction video by Ambrose dad and professional filmmaker, Ronn Seidenglanz. I recalled the million pieces of video cleverly constructed together featuring darling smiles, endearing teachers, students, and parents, the dirt basketball at sunset scene, and the entire student body doing the wave out on our little piece of grass “back at the old building.” All this set to a fabulous song in a foreign language. It produced tears and goose bumps round the Stueckle Sky Center that night, and assuredly moved many hearts and pocketbooks to get that Palaestra built! The proof is in the pudding, they say, and we are indeed using our Palaestra just a year later!

Protocol is weeks behind us now, but what a grand night it was! It all began with appetizers and portraits at The Ambrose School at 5 p.m. Protocol is the event to wear your very best, and if you are a young lady, that would include a long or short gown, perhaps a scarf, jewels, and high heels. Oh, and don’t forget a special hairstyle. My personal favorite were the dazzling smiles throughout the evening. Our Ambrose girls delivered!

Last week at this time, our Ambrose mock trial teams were nervously anticipating the first round of the state mock trial championship. Twenty four hours , three courthouses and four trials later, we found ourselves in 2nd place, proud of our young people’s performances, and even more importantly, proud of their honorable demeanor throughout.

Most of us are happily settling into spring break, trying to not let the rain cramp our style. But some of us still have the mock trial glow about us....
If you were a good Ambrose citizen, you read DG’s recent Headmaster e-mail that detailed the most satisfying events of the recent mock trial competition that included our high school students. If you didn’t read it, you can just read my blog entry, look at pictures, and learn the same things....

What is not to love about Shakespeare? Well... it can be difficult to understand the language, but with lively, animated actors, we can quite easily grasp the crux of the story. And that is certainly the case when the Ambrose School 5th grade class presented their versions of “As You Like It” and “Comedy of Errors” last Friday at Boise Bible College’s auditorium.

I’ve decided it’s perfectly appropriate to stretch out Teacher Appreciation Week well into March. After all, our teachers are with us all year, nurturing and training our dearest offspring day in and day out! And we have a lot of teachers! Some have been with us a long time (Mr. Daniel), and others, just a short year or two (Mr. Handermann). Some have long hair (Mrs. Householder, Mrs. Liimakka) and some have no hair , as featured here (Mr. Morehouse, Mr. Schoberg).

Last week was Teacher Appreciation at the Ambrose School. I couldn’t even say the extent of homemade treats given, notes sent, coffee brewed, and necks massaged, but I witnessed a good deal of attention and love to the folks who train and nurture our offspring.
